Getting to St. Augustine & Getting Around

Facts checked October 18, 2026

St. Augustine has no airline service of its own, so almost everyone arrives by road. Most visitors who fly land in Jacksonville; Daytona Beach and Orlando are the alternatives.

Do you need a car?

Getting here: yes, or a ride. The visitor bureau says plainly: “There is no public transportation to and from the airports.” You’ll need a rental car, taxi, rideshare or a car service.

Once here: not for the old town. The historic district is compact and walkable, and the hop-on hop-off trolleys cover the main sights (see our trolley comparison). A car earns its keep for the beaches across the Bridge of Lions and on Anastasia Island.

Renting a car

If you do rent, compare the airport desks in one search rather than booking the first brand you see, and check what the rate includes (tolls, extra drivers, mileage) before you pay.

Hop-on hop-off trolley

Tiqets sells the hop-on hop-off Old Town Trolley (product page checked Oct 18, 2026). Our trolley guide compares it with the Red Train.

Schedules, routes and coverage change; confirm on the official page before you travel.
