Where to Stay in Savannah

Prices & schedules checked October 18, 2026

Most visitors pick one of three bases: the Historic Landmark District, where the squares, River Street and nearly every tour are; Tybee Island, Savannah’s beach; or Midtown, a short drive south. Here’s what each suits, using Visit Savannah’s own descriptions, with hotel and vacation-rental searches for each area.

We don’t recommend specific hotels or rentals. We haven’t stayed in them, and prices change daily. Before you book, check the total with taxes and fees, the cancellation policy, and whether parking is included (especially downtown).

The Historic Landmark District

Visit Savannah describes the district as 23 park squares, museums, monuments and restored 18th- and 19th-century homes, with boutiques and more than 100 restaurants, and calls it “the epitome of walkability”. It’s where the trolleys, ghost tours and riverboats leave from, so staying here means you can walk to almost everything in our one-day plan.

The Vrbo search is centered on Forsyth Park, in the historic district, because Vrbo’s lookup sent “Savannah Historic District” to the wrong neighborhood in our test. Check the map before you book.

Tybee Island

Visit Savannah calls Tybee “an easy 20-minute drive from downtown Savannah” and lists everything from beachfront resorts and condos to cottages, inns and large vacation-rental companies. The official Tybee guide describes the livelier South Beach and the quieter North Beach. Pick Tybee if the beach is the point and Savannah is the day trip.

Midtown

Midtown has “a plethora of luxurious hotels”, dining, boutiques and nightlife, according to Visit Savannah, plus Daffin Park, the architecture of Habersham Village and Grayson Stadium, home of the Savannah Bananas. The Historic Landmark District is “a quick 10-minute drive away”. Choose it if you’re driving anyway and want more hotel options.

Coming for St. Patrick’s Day?

The 2027 parade is on Wednesday, March 17, downtown. If you want to walk to the route, stay in the Historic District and book early, with a refundable rate if you can. Our St. Patrick’s Day guide covers which tours close that day.
